Sanibel island is one of the most popular islands in all of Florida. It's just opposite Fort Myers' beach, so you can get there in less than an hour by means of a boat, boat-cab or ferry.
Sanibel's one of the only Isnalds in the world pointed east and west, not north and south as is common. As a curiosity, its shovel form, with the curve in the coasts of Florida, makes it gather up many and more different kinds of shells from all sorts of animals. The island is filled with long, white sand, deep blue water beaches. It's one of the Americans favourite hideouts and the islet's been cataloged as one Florida's best beaches on many occasions. Some of its best known are Lighthouse Beach, Causeway Beaches and Bowman's Beach.
Captiva Island is an appendix out of Sanibel Beach which also has spectacular places such as Captiva Beach or Turner Beach. They are a must visit if you travel to Fort Myers! You'll love them!
