If you want to understand the Croatian food and cuisine tradition, these 2 ingredients are the basics to understand what is all about. Many meals are made and prepeared with these 2 types of cheese/cream. Sir or in some places also called “Mladi sir”, is the cottage cheese and together with the fresh sour cream (called vrhnje) it can be found in the farmers markets, still very traditional in the Balkans. One of the traditional recipes in Zagreb region is the Strukal or Strukli in plural, which is basically dough filled with these 2 ingredients
