The Buda Castle is a large building in Buda, one of the two parts that conform the capital city of Hungary. For years it was the fortification of Hungarian kings and the Royal Palace, until 1945. The imposing building is on Castle Hill, in the district of Várnegyed, one of the most famous and beautiful areas of the city for their medieval and baroque buildings . If you visit the castle do not miss a tour of the surrounding neighborhood, you will understand why it's one of the most popular areas in the city.
The views from the castle offer spectacular panoramic views of the River Danube and Pest, the other part of the capital of Hungary. It's accessible by public transport or a more entertaining alternative is to walk up to it.
Inside the castle you can find several artworks and activities are often organized. In the year 1987 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The area of the castle allows you to walk peacefully. Among the elements that surround it there's is the Fishermen's Bastion (Fisherman's Bastion), a neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque panoramic terrace situated on the bank of the Danube, near the castle and Matthias Church.
