Located in the outskirts of Saint Petersburg, the Peterhof Palace is a complex with gardens, palaces and fountains, probably one of the biggest in the world. The palace and its parks were built by the Peter I the Great as his Summer palace in the outskirts with the goal of overshadow the beauty of the Versalles Palace.
The center of the place is the Big Palace of Peterhof, of Baroque-style. The palace was almost destroyed during the Second World War, but in 1944 it started to be renewed. Nowadays, the palace has the National Museum of Peterhof, and together with the fountains and the parks it is considered World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
While walking through the gardens of the palace you can get lost in the Big Waterfall, one of the biggest fountains in the world with more than 37 statues, 64 fountains and 142 water jets.
All the constructions of the place are very elegant and harmonics, and they belong to the main “Pearl Necklace of Saint Petersburg”, which is the name that has this group of palaces around the city.
