Central America + Caribbean - Puerto Rico - San Juan
Tostones are a common snack in Puerto Rico. The main ingredient is green plantain. It's cut into slices and fried twice: once to harden them and then are fried again after passing them by the paella pan to roast them a little. Some people add a little salt to the dish to enhance its flavor but there is also the sweet variety, adding sugar or caramel. The result is a little high in calories but it's really good.
