Jachnun is a traditional Yemenite dish and in Israel it’s normally reserved for Saturday morning, during Shabbat, due to its high caloric intake. Jachnun consists of a dough made with flour, white sugar and margarine, wrapped and cooked inside a pot in the oven –the day before, since it’s forbidden to use electrical devices on Saturdays- for about 12 hours. It’s normally accompanied with slices of tomato, hard-boiled eggs and shkug, a Yemenite hot sauce.
