Old Goa was the most important city during the territory's Portuguese colonization. It had a time of real splendor during the twentieth century but it was gradually forgotten. Today, it houses many churches and convents carefully maintained. Among the most popular buildings there are the Church of St. Francis of Assisi or the famous Basilica of Bom Jesus. It’s located 9 kilometers east of Panji, Goa's capital. To visit this part of the region you will need half a day to quietly enjoy what used to be the "Rome of the East".
