Lal Quila, or Strong Red- takes its name from the reddish color of the sandy stone with which it was built. It was raised by the fifth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the year 1648 and was the residence of the Mughal emperor of India for 200 years. It’s in the city center of Delhi and has several pavilions connected by a water channel called "The Paradise Stream". It's style was innovative for the time in which it was built and served as inspiration for other later constructions. In 2007 UNESCO designated it as a World Heritage Site.
It's important not to confuse this Red Fort with another that has the same name and is in Agra.
