Summer Palace is one of Beijing's most visited monuments, specially at weekends. It was Qing's dinasty playground, a nice refuge to flee from summer's heat at the Forbidden City. It's in the outskirts of the city, around Kunming lake, and is over 290 hectares, so you need several hour to visit it calmly. The complex has temples, palaces and well kept gardens and it's a nice walking area. It's highlights are Buddha's Fragrance Tower and the Great Gallery, a 728 meters long corridor made by wooden beams decorated with traditional Chinese paintings. There's also a theater where you can watchperformances and folk dances and the recreation of a commercial street with country products.
