Venice is an archipelago of islands and the most famous ones among them are Murano and Burano. Murano island is the second largest in the lagoon and it is known worldwide for its glass industry. Its streets are lined with glass workshops and expert craftsmen shaping this material and creating sculptures and utensils of all kinds, colors and sizes. Murano also has the oldest churches in the area: the Basilica of Santa Maria and San Donato.
Burano is farther from Venice than Murano, and the island is smaller too, but the set of buildings looking at the sea give it a very special feel to it, and it also seems more polished. Many people think that this is the most charming island, that's why Burano is one of the most representative images of this part of Italy. What makes this place special are the colorful houses lining the banks of the canals.
Besides, the island has a tradition that has been maintained over time and that adds even more magic to the place, lace. Lots of people work weaving these pieces of clothing and it is one of the island's traditional industries.
