San Giorgio Maggiore is a small island located at the end of Venice's Grand Canal. In this piece of land the San Giorgio basilica and monastery is located. This is one of the city's most photographed places. The church highlight is its white marble facade; when the sun is shining directly on it it’s almost impossible to appreciate its details because the sunlight's reflection is so intense.
The interior is neater but one of its greatness’ is that within its walls are several Tintoretto paintings like 'The Last Supper', 'The Miracle of Manna' and "Deposició". But the church's most precious treasure is 'Madonna with the Child and the Saints' by Sebastiano Ricci.
Another thing worth doing in San Giorgio Maggiore is to go up to the Campanile. The height is similar to that of St. Mark's Campanile -about 100 meters- but the ticket price is cheaper and there's a lift. Venice views from there are superb.
